Why I’m Joining Satama

As previously announced I will be leaving my job as a web analyst and online marketing optimizer at a Fortune Global 500 company. What Stéphane Hamel wrote when he left his old job to become a freelancer could have been penned by me now.

The company I work for was named best employer in Sweden in a 2006 survey of 22,000 young professionals. I’ve had plenty of freedom and responsibility, worked on fun projects, been part of a great team, and had a fair budget. I’ve exceeded my goals.

Then why leave? Well, it’s a combination of timing and having found the right challenge. I’ve recently been offered several different jobs in web analytics and multivariate testing—everything from consulting to practicing (major corporations as well as newer web 2.0 companies) to teaching at a major university to joining a vendor to starting a brand new office over here. For some the timing wasn’t right. For others they coincided with the offer from Satama. I haven’t actively looked for those jobs, which shows how hot the market currently is.

Some of the positions are still vacant, and they are all great opportunities, so if you’re interested in working with web analytics in Stockholm, drop me a line and I’ll put you in contact with the companies.

Why did I choose Satama? A combination of things, really. The company has very talented and passionate people on board (Steve is one of them, but there are many more), a no-nonsense business culture, and a broader look on life. They know that you need cultural inspiration and not tunnel vision. Satama has a great track record and offered me a highly exciting challenge. I am looking forward to addressing the problems, challenges, and opportunities that their clients are facing. Satama also has a partnership with Eric T. Peterson, a thought leader in our industry. Satama Analytics offers web analytics, search marketing, and market research consultancy, and is part of Trainer’s House, through which a number of services are offered. The company has experience in online strategy, marketing, productivity, and mobility. Satama Analytics‘ partner network includes all the major web analytics vendors (Clicktracks, Coremetrics, Google Analytics, IndexTools, Omniture, Visual Sciences, WebTrends, etc.)

I don’t feel like I’m leaving something. I feel like I’m going someplace. There’s a difference. And I am looking forward to learning from the great minds at Satama.

    Satama is lucky to get you! And from the little I know about them, I think you’re gon’a have sum fun!

    I was looking at their 10th anniversary site (http://10v.satama.com/), if it’s any indication of their creativity and culture, that sounds great!

    It’s been about 2 months since I did the big jump, and I’m enjoying every minute of it. It’s even behind my expectations.
