Web Analytics in India (Asia, Part III)

August 6th, 2007 by Lars Johansson

Some questions for Trinadh Rao.

What is the biggest challenge facing web analytics in India this year?

I think finding the right resources is the biggest challenge for web analytics in India. A lot of consultancies are calling people who have the words “web analytics” in their resume to find out their experience level and work interest. It would be very difficult to execute web analytic projects in India unless we have a plan on how to create awareness and how to train people.

What similarities and differences did you notice when you took the UBC courses in web analytics?

Before taking the UBC courses things were not clear regarding various web analytics terms. Explaining KPIs and web analytics terminology to others is a piece of cake now!

Can you notice any difference in web behavior in India compared to other parts of the world?

I think there is a difference. As far as I have observed most people in India don’t use the web for transactions. Instead they use it a lot for communication (email, chat, forums and blogs). I believe this is going to change very soon as I can see things happening due to an increase in IT in each and every part of India.

    Hi Trinadh,

Nice to read your article on web analytics. I agreed with you that finding resources in India for web analytics is difficult. Do you know any kind of training in India for this field? Even finding out which companies are implementing it seriously is tough in India.

Friends, I agree with your views about the awareness of web analytics among the Indian community. It is true that majority of people in India do not rely more on internet to research data and rather use it as a tool to communicate with their kin and peers in the form of email or instant messaging. The trend is slowing changing and many of them have started realizing the power of the website to fetch relevant details needed to earn more profitablity for their businesses. It is always wise to research about a company that has got good track record in implementing web analytics solution to companies before investing your money into web analytics. Your business goals should be well defined in order to make your web analytics intiative, a success.
